Music and Words

I have to admit, I’ve never really been much for the whole “gorging yourself and sleeping the rest of the day” that the rest of the country thinks is what this holiday is all about. Nor have I ever been into getting up in the middle of the night to go shopping the day after. Maybe I’m just nuts, but I don’t like turkey enough to make myself sick on it. And I never “like” getting up in the middle of the night, no matter how cheap your laptops may be.

I do like Thanksgiving as a holiday, of course. I like spending time with my family, especially now that it’s one of the 7 weeks of the year I get to see my brother. I like having friends over for dinner, and spending the whole day playing RockBand (even if we did buy the nice big TV the day AFTER the digital jam session).

(It’s going to look fantastic now. Wish I owned a game system.)

Also, I’m really enjoying the 5 days off work. FIVE DAYS! I don’t even get 5 days for Christmas. Just 4. And then 4 again for New Year’s the week after. I’m going snowboarding that week. Which is the first time I’ll get to use my new snowboard and boots and cold-weather-clothes. In fact, it’s only a little over a month away! I can start counting down!

My point. Right. My point was that I don’t really get into Thanksgiving like the rest of the country does. I don’t gorge, I don’t shop, and oh did I mention I don’t like pumpkin pie? I don’t like pumpkin. I don’t like pumpkin pie, or pumpkin spice lattes, or … any of the other pumpkin stuff that people enjoy this time of year.

But it’s ok. Because my mom knows me and bought a strawberry-rhubarb pie for me.

I love this season.
